Once there was a young woman who didn’t like her job. Everyday when she came home from work, she told her husband how terrible her day had been, how tiring the work and how unreasonable her boss. “Leave that job,” her husband told her.
“Oh, I will,” she said. “But not yet. I have too many friends there for me to leave.” And so she remained unhappy at work until the years became decades and her children had children. “Leave that job,” her grandchildren told her. “Oh, I will,” she said. “But not yet. There are only seven more years until I reach thirty years of service and can retire. So I can’t just yet.”
I know this woman. And her story reminds me of an old dog half asleep on the porch of a general store, moaning and groaning(呻吟) in the sun. “Why is your dog acting that way?” a customer asked the store owner. “Oh,” answered the man. “He’s lying on a nail.” “Well, why doesn’t he move?” “Because it’s not hurting him bad enough.”
That’s true for people, too. We convince ourselves the pain is not bad enough to leave the workplace we know. But we’re wrong. Prolonged work pain is continuing. Some work pain damages our self-esteem, kills our passion or destroys our dreams.
Wilbur Wright once mented, “We could hardly wait to get up in the morning. I know that exciting feeling of being so passionate about something I was working on that I couldn’t wait to get back to work. And people who are winning at working know that kind of passion, too.”
They get excited about work. They offer their unique gifts and talents eagerly. And when things don’t change as they sometimes will, they refuse to let environment hijack(劫持) their self-esteem, passion or dreams.

57. From the second paragraph we can know that the woman .
A. liked making friends with others B. loved all of her children very much

59. People who are getting along well with their work .
A. are likely to change with the situation B. are not willing to go to work
C. need more unique gifts and talents D. have to get up early every day

Bill Gates and the president of General Motors have met for lunch, and Bill is going on and on about puter technology. “If automotive technology had kept pace with puter technology over the past few decades, you would now be driving a V-32 instead of a V-8, and it would have a top speed of 10,000 miles per hour,” says Gates. “Or, you could have an economy car that weighs 30 pounds and gets a thousand miles to a gallon of gas. In either case, the sticker price of a new car would be less than $ 50. Why haven't you guys kept up?”
The president of GM smiles and says, “Because the federal government won't let us build cars that crash four times a day. ”
Why is that funny (or not funny, as the case may be)? Human beings love to laugh, and the average adult laughs 17 times a day. Humans love to laugh so much that there are actually industries built around laughter. Jokes, sits and edies are all designed to get us laughing, because laughing feels good. For us it seems so natural, but the funny thing is that humans are the only species that laughs. Laughter is actually a plex response that involves many of the same skills used in solving problems.
Laughter is a great thing ― that's why we've all heard the saying, “Laughter is the best medicine.” There is strong evidence that laughter can actually improve health and help fight disease. When we look at laughter ― what it is, what happens in our brains when we laugh, what makes us laugh and how it can make us healthier and happier, there's a huge amount about it that no one understands yet.

There are many reasons that goals go unfulfilled. For many, goal setting is a never ending circle that starts, stops, and begins again. To help us sueed in reaching our goals, let’s examine the reasons why many people fail at reaching them. Here are 7 Reasons That You Won’t Reach Your Goals:

Too many people stop right before the finish line. It’s almost like they are afraid of sueeding. Often a life event is used as the reason for not finishing. Something always es up before you finish.

Every year, more than four million babies are born in the United States.
Some parents named their children based on family, cultural or religious traditions. Girls are often named after a family member but rarely their mothers. Sons, though, are often named after their fathers.
Every year the Social Security Administration releases a list of the most popular baby names in America. Last year, Jacob was the most popular boy name and Emma the number one name for girls.
These days, the choice of a baby name seems to be guided as much by individual desires as by tradition. This is shown in the fact that the most popular baby names are not as popular as they used to be.
Researchers at San Diego State University in California did a study. They found that thirty-two percent of boys received one of the ten most popular names in 1955. The same was true for twenty-two percent of girls. By 2007, however, the numbers were down to less than ten percent of boys and only eight percent of girls.
“People are more and more interested in finding unusual names. And now since we have the information on the Inter of what the most popular names are, the percentage of kids who get them actually is going down because people are able to avoid them much more suessfully than they did before,” said Cleveland Evans, a professor of psychology at Bellevue University.
Parents can find plenty of advice on the Web and in bookstores about choosing a baby name. A lot has also been written about the possible effects that a name might have on a child’s future.
There are studies that suggest children with unusual names are more likely to be laughed at. Other studies suggest that as adults, they might be less likely to get called for a job interview. Yet other research suggests that giving a child an unusual name might help build character. What all this adds up to is a big responsibility for parents to consider what’s really in a name.
68. Parents name their sons aording to the following EXCEPT _____.
A. family traditionB. a most popular baby name
C. cultural customs D. their fathers’ names
69. What can be inferred from the study of San Diego State University?
A. Parents’ idea on giving babies names are changing with social development.
B. Jacob was more popular than any other boy names in the United States of America.
C. Sons and daughters are always named after their fathers or grandfathers.
D. More people are delighted in using popular names in America nowadays
70.Aording to some studies, which is to NOT the possible effect of giving children unusual names?
A. When they grow up, they may be less likely to get called for a job interview.
B. They possibly build character.
C. Children with unusual names can get more chances in future.
D. Children with unusual names are more likely to be made fun of by others.

A. Most Names Are Named After Father
B. How to Find Names on the Web

An important scientific report announced “irrefutable (不能反驳的) proof” that climate change is happening and it’s all our fault. How long has it been before people are against the global warming idea? But here’s a funny thing. Last year there was a very bad hurricane season in the Caribbean when, among other disasters, New Orleans was almost wiped off the map. We were wisely informed by the experts at the time that this was owing to global warming.
I remember watching a BBC science programme and hearing a learned professor with a beard tell us, “The increased frequency and strength of hurricanes is what we shall have to learn to expect given global warming.”
This year there have been far fewer hurricanes and those there have been were relatively mild. Why? Global warming again of course. Professor Bjorn Lomb, author of The Skeptical Environmentalist, writes, “In the constant media reports of possible greenhouse- related disasters, almost any event is now linked to climate change.” He adds, “We should not spend vast amounts of money to cut a tiny slice of the global temperature increase when this leads to a poor use of resources and when we could probably use these funds far more effectively in the developing world.” For saying this, Lomb has had death threats.
Other scientists who do not toe the global warming-is-happening-and-it’s-all-our-fault line have received the same. There are plenty of people who count against global warming. A world of senior climatologists and meteorologists (气象学家) wrote to The Times last year to plain that they couldn’t get their research findings published―because they disagreed to it. We have had a warm autumn. The experts, fanatics (狂热者) all of them, put it down to global warming. If we have an extra cold winter, they will tell us it’s a result of global warming. If my big toe feels cold or hurts badly, it will be owing to global warming.
72. The purpose of this passage may be to ______.
A. support the idea of global warming B. anize a debate about global warming
C. encourage people to use money effectively D. speak out against the global warming idea
73. What happened to New Orleans last year?
A. It disappeared in the world.B. It was badly destroyed.
C. It witnessed global warming. D. It experienced several disasters.
74. From the passage, we can infer that ______.
A. the majorities usually stand for the correct opinion
B. people have realized the side effect of development
C. a different idea sometimes may cost one his life
D. people are taking too many efforts to stop global warming
75. The main idea of the last paragraph may be ______.
A. global warming may lead to toe’s catching cold in a sense
B. The Times refuses to publish articles on global warming
C. it is certainly incorrect to owe everything to global warming
D. a warm autumn is not related to global warming at all
